New Plan of Management for National Park, Newcastle
For Newcastle City Council.
Gondwana Consulting prepared a replacement Plan of Management for National Park out the outskirts of the Newcastle CBD for Newcastle City Council. National Park is an historic sporting park, covering approximately 20 hectares, which has played a significant role in the provision of major sporting facilities for Newcastle and the wider the Hunter Valley area for the last 60 to 80 years. It includes a range of facilities – from major heritage grandstands to low-key playgrounds and day-use facilities as well as variety of community facilities. The Park has long associations with a number of sporting and recreation clubs or organisations – including cricket, AFL, rugby union, soccer and netball – and is a regional base for a number of the major sporting codes.
The plan’s preparation included a sizeable community engagement component – from on-site user surveys to focus groups and public meetings – as well as the preparation and exhibition of a comprehensive Issues and Opportunities Paper outlining alternative futures for the Park.
