Beresfield Recreation Precinct Masterplan.

For The City of Newcastle.

Gondwana Consulting assisted The City of Newcastle in preparing alternative masterplans, a masterplan report and accompanying cost estimates, feasibility study and implementation pathway for the redevelopment of recreation and community facilities within the Beresfield Recreation Precinct on the western margin of the Newcastle LGA.

The project examined the existing open space and facilities within the Precinct, adjoining land uses (including a Council managed Pool Complex and the Beresfield Bowling Club), the site’s regional open space and recreation context, and the district’s socio-economic and demographic and recreation demand/participation profiles.  The project built on Council research which identified gaps in the provision, standard and quality of open space and community facilities as well as the under utilisation of several of the Precinct’s existing community facilities that did not best meet residents’ needs.  The overall aim of the masterplan project was to identify the role and way in which the Beresfield Recreation Precinct could be most effectively utilised to help meet the broader recreation and community facility needs of the Beresfield, Tarro and Woodberry communities.
